After playing 265 international cricket matches, South Africa pace bowler Dale Steyn announced his retirement from all formats of the game.

Steyn was one of the most feared and lethal bowlers of his time as he used to clock more than 150kmph speed to crash into the batsman’s defences.

On Tuesday, the South African bowler took to his Twitter handle to announce his retirement with some of the best pictures from his playing days.

“Today I officially retire from the game I love the most. Bitter sweet but graceful,” Steyn issued a statement on his Twitter handle.

“It’s been 20 years of training, matches, travel, wins, losses, strapped feet, jet lag, joy, and brotherhood. There are too many memories to tell. Too many faces to thank. So I left it to the experts to sum up, my favourite band, the Counting Crows.

“Thank you to everyone, from family to teammates, journalists to fans, it’s been an incredible journey together,” the statement added.

Steyn’s latter part of his career was marred with a lot of injuries which also forced him to rule out of the ICC 2019 World Cup in England. His best bowling figure in ODI of 6/39  came against Pakistan in 2013.

AB de Villiers and Virender Sehwag, two of the most dangerous batters who Steyn had bowled during his career, wished the South African bowler for his further journey.
