IPL 2021: I Would Want To See Jasprit Bumrah Bowl One Over In The Powerplay – Dale Steyn

Former South Africa fast bowler Dale Steyn feels that the Mumbai Indians (MI) should make use of Jasprit Bumrah a bit more in the powerplay when they take on the Kolkata Knight Riders in Abu Dhabi on Thursday.

In 8 matches this season, the Indian spearhead pacer has bowled 10 overs inside the first six overs. While his economy of 5.4 is terrific, he has failed to pick a single wicket in the powerplay.

In the previous game, versus CSK, Jasprit Bumrah didn’t bowl a single over in the powerplay and came on in the 7th over. Although the Kiwi pair of Trent Boult and Adam Milne ran riot in the first six overs, nipping out 4 CSK batters.

“I still think playing in UAE, he (Jasprit Bumrah) will get a little bit of more purchase from the wickets as opposed to playing in India,” Dale Steyn told ESPNcricinfo.

“He doesn’t bowl a lot in the powerplay. But I would want to see him bowl one [over] in the powerplay with the batters looking to score quickly and fielders inside the ring, one in the middle and then two at the death because he is so good. If you get wickets in the powerplay, you look to win the game,” Steyn added.

Boult is someone I would not trust bowling in the last few overs: Sanjay Manjrekar

On the MI bowling attack further, Sanjay Manjrekar expressed a lack of trust in Trent Boult in the death overs.

The left-arm speedster has been phenomenal with the new ball since last season, but his death numbers are disappointing; against CSK, he conceded 24 runs in the 19th over to Ruturaj Gaikwad and Dwayne Bravo as MI slipped the stronghold on the match.

“I don’t think they (Mumbai Indians) will give the bowling to Boult in the last four overs. They will use him a bit like Dhoni uses Deepak Chahar. Boult is someone I would not trust bowling in the last few overs,” Manjrekar said.

With 4 wins and 4 losses so far Rohit Sharma’s side are placed fourth in the points table. A victory on Thursday will take them to third place.
